Eagles Get Punched In the Face By the Niners, Lose 42-19
The Eagles have made a name for themselves in finding ways to win. It worked against the Cowboys, Chiefs, and Bills. But it did not work against the 49ers. They came into Philly and trampled the Eagles. And by trample, I mean scoring 6 straight TDs to eventually win 42-19.
The game actually started out going the Eagles’ way. The 49ers started the game with two straight 3 and outs. The Eagles meanwhile started out with two drives into the Red Zone. But they had to settle for field goals. And that was when the floodgates opened up. The defense didn’t get a stop for the rest of the game. And Deebo Samuel, after talking so much trash all off-season, scored 3 TDs.
Can some of it be blamed on a bad schedule situation? Sure. The Eagles came into the game having played three straight tough games in a short period of time, including having to work extra hard against the Bills. The defense looked gassed today and you can understand why. The 49ers meanwhile were coming off extra rest. But even with that in consideration, it was not even close. The 49ers were just better today in almost every single way.
The good news is that the Eagles still hold the 1-seed. The buffer they had built by going 10-1 came in handy, and they maintained a 1-game lead over the rest of the NFC. But now the Niners have the tiebreaker. And they are suddenly in danger of blowing that lead.
If they can beat the Cowboys next Sunday night they will be in great shape to still win the Conference, and they would have pretty much sealed their place in the NFC East. But they don’t have any more room for error, especially with the 49ers. Luckily they should be in much better health. After a scare today, Jalen Hurts is good to go, and Dallas Goedert is expected to be back.
