Eagles vs Cowboys Week 9 Inactives – Derek Barnett Benched
DETROIT, MICHIGAN - OCTOBER 31: Derek Barnett #96 of the Philadelphia Eagles plays against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on October 31, 2021 in Detroit, Michigan.
Dallas week is finally here. In about an hour, the Eagles take on the Cowboys at home. Win, they take full control of the NFC East. Lose, and they have just a half-game lead. It is way too early for anything to be a must-win, but this is about as important as mid-season games get. It makes the difference between being squarely in the driver’s seat of the division and being in a tough battle over the final 9 weeks. But before we get to the game, let’s take a look at who will be inactive for both teams.
Here are the Eagles’ Inactives
Derek Barnett being out is interesting. He has not produced at all this year, but has been active in every other game, and was not on the injury report coming into it. It should mean more chances for Nolan Smith today.
Apart from that, We knew Bradley Roby, Boston Scott, and Grant Calcaterra would all be out. The usually inactive Rashaad Penny and Albert Okwuegbunam get promoted to the active roster to take their place. Penny hasn’t seen the field since week 2, and Albert O hasn’t seen it at all this season. We will have to see if they get any playing time, or if they are just up in case of an emergency.
The better news is the lack of a few people the the inactive list. There were concerns about the injuries to Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter earlier in the week. But after they both participated fully in practice, they are good to go vs the Cowboys.
One change not reflected in the Injury Report is Tyler Steen taking over for Sua Opeta at RG. There was some hope Cam Jurgens would come off the IR now that he is eligible. But it looks like that will have to wait for the Chiefs game after the Bye Week.
Here are the Cowboys’ Inactives
The big question all week for the Cowboys was whether or not Tyron Smith would be good to go. he missed week 8 with a Stinger, but for once it did not impact the on-field product for the Cowboys as they blew the Rams out. He was limited all week in practice and listed as questionable to play today. But he will be in there, blocking Josh Sweat today.

The 6 Most Important Eagles In the Game Against The Cowboys
Today’s game vs the Dallas Cowboys may be the most important of the season for the Eagles. Not just because it comes against our most hated rival, but because of what it could mean for the Eagles the rest of the way. Winning today would put them in an amazing position to win the NFC East.If they win, they will be 8-1, and the Cowboys will be 5-3. A 2.5-game lead, with 8 games left in the season, and obviously a head-to-head win. It would not seal the division for them, but it would make it incredibly difficult for the Cowboys to come back.
Yes, the Eagles have a tough stretch coming up. But it is not a cakewalk for the Cowboys either. Their next 3 games are Giants, Panthers, and Commanders. But after that, they have to play the Seahawks, the Bills in Buffalo, the Dolphins in Miami, and the Lions, on top of the Eagles again. However, if they lose to the Cowboys, it becomes just a half-game lead with the Cowboys having the edge in head to head, and in their divisional record.
The Eagles can win this game, then go just 2-3 over their tough 5-game stretch, and still get to 13-4. Their final 3 games are against the Cardinals and the Giants twice. But the path to 13 gets much harder if they lose.
So what will it take to walk away with a win over the Cowboys? The 49ers gave us a bit of a game plan for beating up on the Cowboys. Get lots of pressure on Dak Prescott, and run the ball. Two things the Eagles happen to excel at. But in order to pull that off, certain players are going to have to have big games. Let’s look at some of the most important Eagles players today (other than the obvious choice of Jalen Hurts).
Here are the 6 most important players (besides Jalen Hurts) for the Eagles this Sunday:
