Bryson Stott Is One of 4 Phillies Up For A Gold Glove
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - OCTOBER 16: Bryson Stott #5 of the Philadelphia Phillies throws to first for an out in the eighth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks during Game One of the Championship Series at Citizens Bank Park on October 16, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Phillies were not known for great fielding for most of this season. Trea Turner was an error machine and Kyle Schwarber was one of the worst outfielders in the game. But there are a group of Phillies who are among the best fielders at their position in the game. Bryson Stott, JT Realmuto, Zack Wheeler, and Taijuan Walker are all finalists at their positions for a Gold Glove.
Missing are both Johan Rojas and Ranger Suarez. Despite being elite fielders at their positions, neither played enough games to qualify. But Stott, Realmuto, Wheeler, and Walker all have a chance to take home the hardware once the awards are given out.
Obviously, Wheeler and Walker cannot both win, since they are finalists for the same reward. Their competition is Jesus Luzardo from the Marlins. Realmuto is contending with Gabriel Moreno of the D-Backs, and Patrick Bailey of the Giants. And Bryson Stott has to contend with Ha-Seong Kim of the Padres and Nico Hoerner of the Cubs.
Of all the Phillies, Bryson Stott feels the most deserving to win the award. He is 5th overall in Outs Above Average. Not 5th among 2nd Basemen, 5th in the entire league. He rarely makes mistakes and makes plays most guys would never get to. And with 2 of the 3 finalists for Gold Glove at Pitcher being Phillies, there is a decent chance a Phillie will be taking home that award too. But while JT has a chance to win his 3rd Gold Glove, it feels like a lot of the momentum is behind Gabriel Moreno.
Winners will be announced on Sunday, November 5th in a special edition of Baseball Tonight on ESPN set to start airing at 7:30 pm.

The Phillies 26-Man Roster For the NLCS Vs The Diamondbacks
The Phillies are back in the NLCS. For the second straight year, they knocked the 100+ win Braves out of the playoffs in the NLDS. Everyone called them the greatest lineup in Baseball history. Didn’t seem so potent against the Phillies. They were held to just 7 runs across 4 games. With guys like Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson being quiet the entire series. And now, we can look forward to the NLCS and the Diamondbacks.
The Phillies get the next 3 days off. Which they may need after how much they partied after the win in game 4. And then on Monday, it begins. They need 4 more wins to get to the World Series, and 8 more to parade down Broad Street.
And there is good reason to be very confident in this team. As good as last year’s team was, this roster is even better. To start, they have Trea Turner who is putting up crazy numbers. Bryce Harper is still the best playoff hitter ever. And now you have Nick Castellanos playing out of his mind after he struggled in the playoffs last year. And maybe more important, is how great the pitching looks.
The Braves may be choke artists, but that was still a very good lineup. They were shut down by the Phillies pitchers though. Wheeler, Nola, and Suarez all pitched gems. And apart from game 2, the Bullpen shut the door on the Braves once the starters came out. The bullpen goes deep, far deeper than it did last year. The lineup is just as deep. This team is very good.
So before the NLCS, let’s get a reminder of just how good this 26-man roster is. And while we are at it, let’s see how all of them have played against the Diamondbacks so far this season.
Here is what their 26-man roster in the NLCS vs the Diamondbacks will look like:
