Chris Simms Thinks Teams Should Go Headhunting On Jalen Hurts
CANTON, OHIO - AUGUST 04: (L to R) NBC Sports commentators Jac Collinsworth, Chris Simms and Rodney Harrison laugh during a segment prior to the 2022 Pro Hall of Fame Game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Las Vegas Raiders at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on August 04, 2022 in Canton, Ohio.
Chris Simms, henceforth known only as Phil Simms’ son, has quickly become one of the most hated media figures by Eagles fans. He has been a Jalen Hurts hater from the start. To be fair, two seasons ago lots of people had no faith in Hurts. But most came around and admitted they were wrong after how well he played last year. Not Simms. The poster boy for nepotism stubbornly stuck by his take on Hurts all last season, even going as far as to say there is not much of a gap between Hurts and Daniel Jones. But his latest anti-Hurts take went too far. It took Phil Simm’s son from just being an idiot perhaps best ignored, to a genuinely bad dude. Because now he is saying people should intentionally try and hurt him.
He tried to walk it back, but you can’t walk back from the word headhunting. Simms was genuinely thinking a team should take a shot at Hurts’ head. He said they should try and kill him. It took Mike Florio stepping in to make him realize how awful what he said was. But we got an insight into the type of person Phil Simm’s son is. And what he is is a terrible person. Simms meant what he said the first time.
…
It’s bad enough when fans on some crappy fan blog say crap like this. But Simms is supposed to be a professional. He does Pre-Game stuff for NBC on Sunday Night Football. He has a platform. But no one who says crap like this is deserving of that platform. If you have such little respect for the players, that you would advocate from intentionally hurting someone, you should not have a job.
The awful takes you can forgive. Those are pathetic and it is sad that type of stuff sometimes works, but it’s not done with malice. You can even forgive Phil Simm’s son for the time he threw a little hissy fit when ESPN made fun of him for his awful takes on Jalen Hurts. That was hilarious and made him more worthy of pity than scorn. But saying teams should target Hurts’ head crosses the line.
Maybe he doesn’t have the proper respect for these players because he was never good enough to stick around in the NFL. Maybe the shame of failing to even come close to following in his father’s footsteps has made him so bitter when he sees someone else succeed, he takes it out on Hurts. Or maybe he is just an entitled jerk who only has a platform because of who his dad is. Simms has nothing worthwhile to say, so he has to rely on this type of crap to grab attention. Well, he is going to get it for saying something as awful as this.
Philadelphia Eagles Projected 2023 Week 4 Starters
The Philadelphia Eagles are one of three NFL teams with a 3-0 record. They will return home in Week 4 of 2023 NFL season to face the Washington Commanders at Lincoln Financial Field.
The defending NFC champs defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium in Week 3.
Philadelphia Eagles Defeat Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Eagles dominated Tampa Bay on Monday Night Football. A fearsome defensive front led by Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis wreaked havoc on the helpless home team. The Philadelphia fans invaded the stadium with a loud and proud takeover.
Jalen Hurts took steps forward with a stronger passing performance. He threw for 277 yards, but some missed throws and two interceptions still leave some room for improvement.
Nick Sirianni just keeps on winning. After a 2-5 start to his career as a head coach, he has won 26 of 34 games.
The Eagles will enter as 8.5 point favorites against Washington in Week 4.
Projected Philadelphia Eagles Week 4 Starters
The Eagles still face some injury concerns as they return to Philadelphia to face the Commanders. Avonte Maddox will miss the remainder of the season. Josh Jobe started as the outside cornerback opposite Darius Slay in Week 3. James Bradberry slid to the slot to play the nickel position.
Nicholas Morrow came up from the practice squad to start in Week 2. He has seamlessly jumped in with a strong game against the Vikings and a big tackle for a safety against the Buccaneers.
Reed Blankenship stepped back into the starting lineup after missing the Week 2 game against Minnesota. Sydney Brown might figure into the rotation more on defense, but Justin Evans will likely hold the other starting safety position if he’s healthy.
Injury news that affects the Eagles Week 4 starters will trickle out as the week moves along. The quick turnaround following Monday Night Football will force Sirianni to act quickly.
