This Weekend Made Anthony Gargano Proud to Be From Philadelphia
Anthony Gargano was feeling proud to be from Philadelphia after what fans did for Trea Turner this weekend:
“All weekend long was one of the greatest displays of fandom that I have ever seen. I thought it was one of the most beautiful things in the world. We get caught up in having this snarky attitude toward life. But sometimes it is just about love, and goodness. Sometimes you can get your point across in the most magical way. In a way that was a beautiful display of encouragement. It was love for the sport and love for the team.
I thought it was uplifting, I thought it was inspiring, and I thought it was important. We can talk about how the national media owes us big. But we didn’t do it for that. We talked about this on Friday, that a standing ovation for Trea Turner would go a long way. Nobody expected him to bust out of it. But he did, in a big way.
It cements what kind of people we are. It was a road of empathy, of caring, of love, and I have to tell you, I was speechless. All weekend long. I just love these people, our people, our town. I can’t tell you the level and respect and pride I have that I am from Philadelphia. And that I am a Philadelphia sports fan. It was right out of Ted Lasso all of those moments. And it was a display of how much we love the Phillies and love the player. It transcended Trea Turner, who was obviously the beneficiary. And I love what he did, Trea Turner is thanking Phillies fans for the standing ovations this weekend on billboards around Philly. Wow. #CityOfBrotherlyLove pic.twitter.com/7XlREGusGX
Don’t we need that, with all the stuff going on in this world? All of that is around us, and we escape into pure rapture. I just thought it was amazing. I am going to keep throwing out all the superlatives because I was moved by it.”
