Nick Sirianni Rips Into His Players In First Training Camp Practice
Bouncing back from a Super Bowl loss can be hard. Doing so after a win can even be harder. We saw that with the Rams last year. They went from Super Bowl winners, to out of the playoffs. It puts a target on your back and can take a toll on the bodies of players playing all of those extra games. And Nick Sirianni is well aware of that stigma, and he is setting the tone early in camp that they cannot take it for granted that they will be just as good as they were last year.
Tim McManus joined The Best Show Ever and was asked what stood out to him most at the first practice at Training Camp. And for him, it was the message Nick Sirianni was sending to players. And that message is that there is a standard we have to reach, and not meeting it is unacceptable, even in the first practice. So when there was some sloppy play today, he let them hear about it.
“The most striking image of day 1 of camp was Nick Sirianni with a bullhorn getting really animated with his players. It came during a period near the end of camp where there were 5 presnap infractions in 6 plays. So it was total slop, and Sirianni was pissed. He gets on that bullhorn and is chewing out the offensive and defensive linemen. Basically sending the message that if you want to lose to bad teams, this is how you do it.
That struck me because there isn’t really a detail they are overlooking right now. There isn’t any passe vibe about a team that is easing in post-Superbowl. The message has been very clear. They are trying to put that to bed. To turn the page on that 2022 Super Bowl team, make sure that they start fast, and set a foundation and tone for this season. We have a standard and you guys are not reaching it.”
And that message has been made clear elsewhere too. Nick Sirianni said multiple times in his Press Conference that they are not taking the season for granted. He is not going to let his players look past the regular season just because of how good they were last year. And him ripping into his players over some sloppy play at the first practice is just another example of that.
Tim McManus also discussed some training camp battles, what to expect from Jalen Hurts this season and more.
