Ranger Suarez Just Put Together One Of The Best Pitching Months In Philadelphia Phillies History
Ranger Suarez took the mound in Chicago last night with a great opportunity. There were still a couple of days left in the month of June when Suarez toed the rubber at Wrigley Field, but it would be his last start of the month. After missing more than a month to start his 2023 campaign, Suarez was still working through some early speedbumps coming into June. Well, as we get ready to exit June, there are very few issues to continue to work through for the Phillies’ #3 starter.
Actually, I’m not sure if that positioning in the rotation is fair anymore. Suarez put together a month that made him look like not only the best pitcher in the Phillies’ rotation right now, but one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. He could very well be staring down a Pitcher of the Month award in the National League, and last night was just another instance of why he fully deserves consideration for that honor.
In a sport where velocity has become king, Ranger Suarez and his 92-93 mph fastball have carved out a spot of greatness among MLB pitchers. His 7.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 8 K performance against the Cubs last night was amazing, but it was also just the latest in a string of amazing starts by Suarez.
Just take a look at his month of June:

My goodness, those are some absolutely unbelievable numbers. It puts Ranger Suarez in a rare space when it comes to the greatest months of pitching in Phillies history. Check out this graphic from last night’s broadcast of the game; it’s basically a who’s who of great Phillies pitchers.
Ranger Suárez made 5 starts this month giving up 1 earned run or less and going 6+ innings in each start. Epic June in Phillies history

Yes, Suarez has put himself into that conversation. He is one of the more underrated starters in all of baseball, and despite the pre-season injury that cost him part of his season, he has been outstanding for the Phillies. Now, it’s not just Suarez. The Phillies have had the best starting pitching in all of baseball in June, and it is also thanks to Zack Wheeler, Taijuan Walker, the bullpen, and somewhat Aaron Nola and Cristopher Sanchez. Suarez, though, has clearly been the best of the bunch during this past month, and if he continues to do so, could be a catalyst for a Phillies comeback from their rough start to the 2023 season.
