Eagles Sign Former 1st Round Pick Safety Terrell Edmunds to 1-Year Deal
It did not take long for the Eagles to find their replacement for CJ Gardner Johnson. They have agreed to a one-year deal with former Steelers Safety Terrell Edmunds. The 26-year-old will step into a starting role with an Eagles team that lost both of its starting Safeties this offseason. The deal was first reported by Ian Rappoport of the NFL Network.

Terrell Edmunds was the Steelers’ first-round pick out of Virginia Tech back in 2018. He has started for them at Safety ever since. But as with many Safeties this offseason, he was not getting the money he wanted and decided to part ways with his former team. So now he joins an Eagles Safety group that currently includes Reed Blankenship, Justin Evans, and K’Von Wallace.
Edmunds lacks the flash CJ Gardner-Johnson brought to the position. Cj had 6 interceptions last season, and Edmunds doesn’t even have 6 interceptions in his career, nor does he have any forced fumbles. But he is dependable in coverage and against the run. He can drop back and cover his man, or step into the box and fill the role of the 3rd linebacker. While CJ Gardenr Johnson was a playmaker, Edmunds is more of a guy you will know is playing well as long as you are not hearing his name a lot.
The deal could mean the Eagles are done at Safety. They do not have a ton of room to still play with to make any signings flashier than this. There is always the chance to could ass another Safety in the draft. Barring that, expect Edmunds and Blankenship to hold down the fort at Safety next season for now.
