Rob Thomson On How Deep this Phillies Team Is
Rob Thomson came into being Manager when the Phillies were at a low point. The team had not been to the playoffs in over a decade, and under Joe Girardi, the team was scuffling. But once Thomson took over, something clicked. Not only did they go on to break the playoff drought, but they made it all the way to the World Series. And now they are set up to be perhaps even better than last year. But what does the man who turned the team around think of his new roster? Rob Thomson joined The Anthony Gargano Show to discuss the upcoming season.
He spoke to Anthony about how this is one of the deeper teams he has coached.
“It is a deep bullpen. Our rotation is deeper than it has ever been. And our lineup is longer than it has ever been. Dave, Sam, our front office, and the pro scouting department have done just a great job to set us up for future success.”
One of those additions was Shortstop Trea Turner. And Rob Thomson went more in-depth about how glad he is to have Turner on the team…
“Quite an addition. We interviewed all 4 of the Short Stops that were out there. They were all good. But Trea was the guy I felt would fit our ball club the best. he is such a high-on-base guy. He also slugs. But his on-base really sets the rest of our lineup up with all the slugging that we have in there. For the time being he is going to lead off. We have to see what happens when Harp gets back. But he is a heck of a player. A guy I am glad is on our side.”
