Anthony’s Opening Diatribe- No Luck is Involved With This Team
In his Opening Diatribe today, Anthony Gargano discusses how this team has not needed any luck, they are just this good…
“A while back, I ran into this dude at Wawa who was a creep. He was ripping me about being a homer for the Eagles. Lo and behold, who do I run into this morning? And I didn’t say nothing, I just stared at him. That empty stare. And then I just smiled. He went, “I gotta give it to you Cuz, this team is going to the Superbowl. Go Birds.” And I was like, the hell with it, go birds buddy.
I wanted to punch this guy in the face the last time we met. His whole attitude, you want to talk about a 180? Do you know what my take was? Good, let’s get everyone on board. There is none of the naysaying, none of the fatalism that has been in this town forever. That Phatalism, spelled with a ph, has been a disease rampant in this town.
I don’t want to hear that it is warranted because we have gone through all this stuff. So what? There is no reason not to believe that this team will be in the Superbowl. They will win on Sunday, and we will celebrate for two weeks leading into the biggest game of them all. We will get another Super Bowl appearance, and hopefully another parade.
I have heard the sentiment that 2018 was for the whole town of Philly. But most particularly for the long-suffering fans. Those that are up in age and have been through it for so long. That Superbowl was dedicated to them. It was almost a gift from the universe for those people. There was divine intervention. Because we remember how lucky that run was. The interesting thing about this run is there is no luck. They are just good. Obviously, that team was different. They lost Wentz, Foles came in, but they were lucky. They were lucky in a million different ways.
The difference today with this team, they are not lucky, they are just good. They are just excellent. They’re a good Football team… They didn’t get lucky. They’re facing the Niners. The best team they could face is San Francisco, and they are facing them. They go 14-3, with no luck involved. In fact, luck was on the other side. 14-3 is well-earned, it is accurate. This team is about quality, and this team is just freaking good.
So when they get to the Superbowl, and I mean when they get there, it will be warranted and earned. This victory will be for the rest of us. If the last one was for all the old-timers, then this one will be for us.”
