Hoops Roundup
It’s been a very busy week. The Phillies clinched their first post-season appearance in 11 years in the final week of the season. The Eagles handled the Jacksonville Jaguars overcoming a 14-0 deficit to win at home and move to 4-0 on the year. They’re the lone remaining undefeated team in the NFL and are headed to Arizona this weekend to try for 5-0. There’s lots of excitement for both teams so it’s easy for the world of basketball to get lost in the shuffle. But I was tied to the Sixers first preseason game Monday night like an absolute nerd.
Jalen Hurts was on the Monday Night Football Manning cast, Phillies were playing for a playoff spot Monday but I had to check out the Sixers in Brooklyn for the first preseason game of the year. There was no James Harden or Joel Embiid but there was Tyrese Maxey. Check out his first half stat line (starters didn’t play in 2nd half) …

In a game with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving & Ben Simmons on the court, Tyrese Maxey stood out as the best player. I know it’s only one preseason game, but basketball is basketball. Tyrese is still improving, which is scary for the rest of the NBA. He’s most likely becoming the best Sixers home grown guard since Iverson, with no offense to Jrue Holiday intended. Jrue is one of the leagues most underrated two way PGs but I just believe Maxey’s offensive games ceiling is so much higher. He’s become deadly from deep and he seemed to have worked on his mid-range game & pull ups this summer. It’s such an exciting time to watch this kids game continue to get better. Just look at the confidence on him, here’s his full highlights in condensed form…

Epic start to Tyrese Maxey's 2022-23 season, he had a 15.2 NET rating in just 13 minutes while showcasing terrific decision making, Maxey is a star #Sixers #HereTheyCome #TyreseMaxey pic.twitter.com/TuO0vosI1k
It’s an exciting time for the Sixers with a full season of James Harden and Joel Embiid ahead. Throw in the mix all the new faces and an emerging Tyrese, you’ve got championship aspirations. I’ll personally be betting them at +1500 for the title. They’re in the gambler’s sweet spot where the value is great and might be somewhat undervalued.
The Sixers might be trying for a title for this year but some teams around the league will be competing for the #1 overall pick in next years NBA Draft. For these two gentlemen in particular.
On Tuesday night, they faced off in a showcase in an Italian league game. A lot of NBA fans who’s teams will not be good this year had their eyes on this game. Some have said Victor Wembenyama who’s 7’4 from France could be the best prospect since LeBron James. He’s talked about on those levels. He can handle, shoot, pass, defend and block shots. He literally does it all. Here’s some of his highlights from last night.

The #2 projected pick in the draft, Scoot Henderson is no slouch of his own. Scouts are also drooling over his game and he went right at Wenbayama last night. The top picks in this upcoming draft is going to be worth their weight in gold. Check out Scoot’s highlights here …

And here I present to you another basketball highlight that’s just flat out funny. Basketball world, meet “Ho You Fat”. I just had to work that in. That’s all, who knows if Ho You Fat is any good but it’s fun to hear his name.
Announcer: "Ho You Fat with the three. Yes I just said that. That is that man’s name.” 😂😂😂

Also to add to the basketball hilarity was this recent picture from ABC’s Abbott Elementary of Philadelphian Quinta Brunson dressing up as James Harden in this past week’s episode. James Harden clearly found enjoyment from it.
