Question of The Day- Are the Phillies Allowed a Champagne Celebration?
Every day on “The Best Show Ever?” we ask the question of the day. For instance, on Friday we asked should Tua Tagovailoa have been allowed to play last night. And you can see the answers we go to that here. But today, our question was about the Phillies, and how they should handle themselves if they do clinch the playoffs in these next few days. So if tonight the Phillies lose, but still make the playoffs because the Brewers also lose, should they do the full celebration with champagne?
The Phillies season started in a really bad way. But after Joe Girardi was fired, things turned around. And now the Phillies might make the playoffs. But an ugly month of September has soured the prospect of breaking the decade-long playoff drought. The concept of a Red October doesn’t bring the same hype it would have a month ago. But even though they are backing into the playoffs, and may make it because of another team’s loss as opposed to their win, should there be a player celebration?
Hunter Brody said of course not. He said it would be loser mentality to celebrate like that after a loss. He doesn’t need them to be upset, but they can’t act like they won a playoff series. Ricky Bo said it wouldn’t bother him. He knows it was going to happen anyway. But he did suggest to go with beer instead of champagne to it is not as formal. Jen liked the idea of beer instead of champagne. Tyrone said no champagne. But then he added a second question. He asked which players should be excluded from the celebration if they win..
Hunter said Nick Castellanos. Ricky Bo said Kyle Gibson. Jen said that Bryce Harper. And Tyrone Nick Nelson. They also said JT Realmuto has to show up to the celebration late the way he showed up to play in this season late. And Rhys is allowed to be in and out of the party they way he only played well this season for short stretches.
Here are some of the best answers we got on Twitter to today’s question…
Doesn't matter if you drove to the party or got dropped off. As long as you get there.

Holding on with their teeth to a 3rd wildcard with 3 to go and still not in says all you need to know.

What did they win champagne is for champions not a 3rd place wildcard team

And when the legitimacy of this last WC is questioned, remember:
NBA
82 games
20 playoff spots
NHL
82 games
16 playoff spots
NFL
17 games
14 playoff spots
MLB
162 games
12 playoff spots
You're a "playoff team" if you make the playoffs.
Simply getting in is a reason to celebrate. There are people who have not been in before, and people who have not been in for a while. Enjoy it with a celebration, then get back to work

Whatever they want to do. Over six long, hard months - not to mention the frustration some of them have felt here for a few years - they’ve earned it. So, have at it! pic.twitter.com/UG34XiSybh
