For two years in a row, NFL Agents have voted Howie Roseman as the least trusted GM in the NFL. The Athletic polled NFL agents on various questions. One of those questions was “Among GMs or front-office leaders, whom do you trust the least?” Four of the 26 NFL agents chose Howie Roseman. That tied him with the Jet’s front office for the least trusted in the league.
So what about Howie do these agents mistrust? Here are the two quotes The Athletic provided about Howie.
“I don’t think he’s very transparent. He kind of tells you what you think you want to hear. He does the same thing with the players.”
“I don’t trust what comes out of his mouth because he lied to me.”
Apparently, Howie has been a little dishonest when working with these agents. And as I said before, he was given this honor last year too. And the surveyed agents gave similar reasons for their lack of trust. They claimed Howie will say one thing, and then do another. And several noted a lack of transparency.
The question is, is this something that should bother us as fans? Does it impact their ability to sign players? They did sign Hasson Reddick in the offseason, but they also swing and missed at several other big names they are rumored to have been trying to sign. Marcus Williams, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Stephon Gilmore all chose to go elsewhere. But with that said they also still had a great off-season. And Howie has had a knack for waiting until players have fewer options and then signing them to a one-year prove it deal. That method may be part of the reason Agents don’t like him as much, but it undeniably helps the team.
It’s probably not a great thing that some agents don’t trust Howie. But despite that, he has continued to do a good job these past couple of seasons. If you went back further than the last offseason he wouldn’t win any popularity contests among fans. But lately, he has done a good job. So I would say it’s also probably not all that bad of a thing. But it is something to remember the next time the Eagles lose out on a big free agent.
