Roman Quinn placed on injured list after experiencing COVID symptoms
Roman Quinn, whose slide at home won the game for the Phillies Friday night against the Mets, was placed on the injured list Sunday morning.
The team did not specify a reason, but it was revealed in Sunday’s Phillies-Mets broadcast that the Phils told Quinn to exercise caution and stay home Sunday after he experienced minor symptoms of COVID-19. Quinn will have to test negative before he can be reinstated. Because this is related to COVID-19, Quinn does not need to spend the full 10 days on the IL.
Quinn was just starting to get going. He’s 6 for 17 with two doubles, a homer and a stolen base over his last five games. His speed and baserunning instincts helped the Phillies win the game Friday night, when he scored from second on a hard-hit Bryce Harper single to right field. Michael Conforto’s throw beat Quinn by a significant margin, but Mets catcher Wilson Ramos did not block the plate and Quinn’s hand touched the plate just before Ramos could tag him.
In 37 plate appearances this season, Quinn has hit .278/.297/.500. Both of the Phillies’ centerfielders, Quinn and Adam Haseley (wrist sprain) are on the injured list. Scott Kingery should see plenty of time in center in the coming days. He started there Sunday afternoon for the second consecutive game.
