Anthony’s Opening Diatribe- Phillies Can’t Finish Sweep of Reds
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - APRIL 07: Trea Turner #7 of the Philadelphia Phillies and J.T. Realmuto #10 of the Philadelphia Phillies react following a two run home run by Realmuto during the seventh inning against the Cincinnati Reds at Citizens Bank Park on April 07, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In Anthony’s Opening Diatribe this morning, he discussed the Phillies failing to complete the sweep of the Reds…
“It would have been a great day if the Phillis were able to complete the sweep of the Reds. That was tough. It was a really tough game. You completely got the momentum back after starting 1-5 on the road. You are feeling good. Everybody is home and watching the game. That would have been big. Seranthony gets bit. He had 2 walks, he gave up the bleeder. Then Fraley golfs the double. Next thing you know, the Reds get the comeback win.
It’s a shame, they had the series. Saturday was amazing… Falter pitched well. Kept them in the game. They get a rally in the 9th inning. Castellanos walks. Bohm who has been swinging a great bat gets a base hit. Marsh rips a single to make it 2-1. Sosa sac fly. And then Stott rips a single to walk it off. It felt like the playoffs. The crowd was wild. 44,000 people. Everybody was standing. It is a shame. Especially after Friday. Friday you win with Wheeler. It is pretty easy. 5-2. JT has a bomb. Then a comeback win on Saturday. You were looking strong yesterday. That was a tough loss. It is a shame. It’s the nature of baseball. But it would have been nice to get the sweep.
Bohm had a great weekend. Had the homerun yesterday. Castellanos 3 doubles over the weekend. That was big for Nick. I guess we will call him Nicky Doubles. And Stott is swinging a great bat. Two more hits yesterday. You know that offensively the lineup will struggle without the power of Rhys and Hall.”

5 Things That The Phillies Need To Improve Upon
The Phillies won their first series of the season as they took two of three from the Reds over the weekend. It was nice to see the Phillies get in the win column twice as they were welcomed back to Citizens Bank Park for the first time since their incredible run to the World Series last October. It was a huge series win considering they dropped the first series of the season to the Texas Rangers and then followed it up with a flat performance in New York.
The Phillies had a busy weekend as they not only had to contend with the Reds, but they also had a lot going on with promotions everyday. Friday was the home opener. Saturday players received awards like the Gold Glove and the Silver Slugger. On Sunday they got their NL Champions ring. So there were a lot of distractions for the team, but they still ended up taking the series. But that doesn’t mean there are not some things to improve upon.
The Phillies enter the away series against the Marlins 3-6 on the year. We have seen it all early on from the Phils. The good, the bad, and the worse. There have been struggles have the pitching, struggles from the plate, and struggles on the base paths. Oh, and the bullpen has fell apart a few times as well.
So lets dive into a few things the Phillies need to improve upon after the first 9 games of the season. This is NOT meant to be an overreaction post. I’m not worried about the team and think they will be able to right the ship. But its not perfect in Phillies land and it can always improve.
Here are 5 things that the Phillies need to improve upon before its too late.
