Anthony’s Opening Diatribe- My Sixers Hopes are Renewed
Anthony Gargano talked about how the Saturday night win renewed his Sixers hopes in his Opening Diatribe this morning…
“The beauty of sports is when you are the most down, and you are staring up at a double-digit deficit on Saturday. Your hopes and dreams feel like they are crumbling. All of the sudden, a 4th quarter like that happens, and it renews hope. One thing about sports is it is unpredictable. It can be beautiful. It can lift us up. And it can rip your heart out. That’s all part of the same spectrum.
Sixers on Saturday night in Milwaukee, with a lot of our hopes on the brink, rallied in that 4th quarter. James Harden was sensational. Last week after the latest report about Houston, I was getting frustrated with Harden. But look, he played really well. He was fantastic. Embiid was a beast. Maxey looked like old Maxey. Niang had a big quarter, so they got some good contributions off the bench. And they were the better team down the stretch.
They are still the 3rd team, and they are always going to be the 3rd team in the playoffs. Right now it is Boston, Milwaukee, and then the Sixers. But what hardens me, is they were the better team down the stretch. If you look at how they have finished close games, they finish them really well. To me, it comes down to this. You are going to be in the 2nd round. You will play either Boston or Milwaukee. Harden has to play like that in 4 out of 7 games. You know what Embiid will give you, and there will be one game where Maxey goes off.
You might just have to outscore people… When you have Tyrese and Harden up top, you will have some defensive mismatches. Maybe you just go after it and try to outscore them…
This team showed a lot of mettle. They showed a lot of stones coming back. That game renewed me… They have an incredible 4th quarter, and all of the sudden, we are Al Pacino. Just when I’m out, they pull me back in.”
