Anthony Gargano’s Opening Diatribe- “There is Magic Here”
Anthony talked about the magic of the Phillies in his Opening Diatribe today. Here is how he opened his show…
I have been thinking all about this matchup. Look, the one thing about this team is they have magic. They have belief. The Astros are really really good. The Astros are nasty… They are strong. There is a reason why they swept the Yankees and rolled through the American League.
But, baseball is a time of upsets. We have already seen it. The Dodgers fell. The Braves fell. I thought that those two teams were the best teams in the National League. Hell, the Mets fell. They were leaking oil, but they were still at least the 3rd best team. Dodgers had the most talent, the Braves were 2, Mets 3. Boom, boom, boom, they fell.
The MLB playoffs are made for underdogs. And we know about dogs. Underdog masks. Hungry dogs run faster. I just think about Kelce, and I think about that run. There is the magical run of 93, and bit of Flyers run in 2010 magic here. That run was one of the great runs in the history of the Delaware Valley…
This Phillies run has a little bit of that, and a little bit of Super Bowl run in 2018. It was unexpected, as this is. They rallied together. How much more turmoil can you get than QB uncertainty? But there was magic, Foles magic. Everyone else came to play, and it was magic. You see it here.
It all started on that fateful Friday in St Louis. They come back 6 runs in the 9th, and that was it. And they believe now. That Harper HR was a thing of lore. That will go down in baseball history as one of the great moments ever. Schwarber playing Reggie Jackson, down to one knee in the bomb, after that Ruthian 488ft bomb that he had. Rhys, with the trials and tribulations that he has had to deal with, comes back with three 2 run homers. He wins game 4 for you. You are down 4-0, he hits the 2-run bomb to make it 4-2. You ar later down 6-4, he hits the 2-run bomb to tie it.
To a man, it has been incredible. We ain’t losing.
