Dave Dombrowski Has To Have Something Up His Sleeve
I woke up this morning annoyed, why you ask? Because I was getting tagged in the story from Jeff Passan late last night that the Yankees traded for Royals OF Andrew Beintendi. The rich get richer but we’re at least used to that with the Yankees. The part that angered me and I say this with “I’m going to be patient and wait until the actual deadline” to get real angry, is that he apparently went for next to nothing. The Yankees sent away their 19th, 21st and according to some reports unranked prospects, another has him 24th prospect in exchange for the OF’er hitting .320 this year. Benintendi will be replacing Joey Gallo, who strikes out 2 times every time he walks in the door of Yankee Stadium. He joins Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge, forming the nastiest OF in MLB.
A CF’er hitting .320 that could be placed at the top of the order to this Phillies lineup would look like a prime Tony Gwynn out there. With no Bryce Harper in this lineup, who was hitting .318 before the injury, the idea of a .300 hitter being added to this lineup should’ve excited everyone. The teams leading hitter is Alec Bohm hitting .293. The teams offensive stability this year has mostly come from LF’er Kyle Schwarber who is hitting .201!! I grew up hearing all about the “Mendoza line” and how if you were hitting below it or around it, you weren’t going to last very long. And now is seems like 1/3rd of the majors is hovering around it (dramatization for effect people, it’s not actually 1/3 but you get the idea…).
Now, I’m going to be patient until Tuesday’s deadline because I’m believing that the Phillies will have something up their sleeves, but it has to be better than Benintendi because he would’ve have addressed a couple of their issues. It wouldn’t have cost you much is a large part of the equation, he could’ve been had without losing probably one of your top 7 or so prospects. Dave and the Phillies front office, you’re on the clock and you better get to work because Tuesday will be here soon! Probably need another starting pitcher as well…
