Packers Make Offical Proposal To Ban The Tush Push
The Tush Push has been a big topic of conversation this off-season. It was reported about a month ago that the Packers were submitting a plan to ban the Eagles iconic play. Now that proposal is official. With League meetings just over a week away, the Packers proposal is now public.
The wording here is very specific. Pushing players would only be banned specifically when the QB, or another player, is under center and does a QB sneak. Pushing at any other point would still be legal. So if an RB gets stuffed, Linemen can still pile up behind him and push.
So the Packers only issue, is that they are upset they can’t run it well, or stop it well. It is the equivalent of stealing the ball and going home because you lost and are a poor sport.
No Good Arguments For Banning The Tush Push
There has still yet to be a single convincing argument in favor of banning it. Injuries? The NFL reported that there were no injuries from the play last season. It is about as dangerous as a QB Kneel. Lack of skill? That is just insulting to the Offensive Linemen. If there was no skill involved, more teams than just the Eagles would spam it on every play where there is 1 yard to gain.

The worst argument is that it is not a football play. That means absolutely nothing. It is just saying that you don’t like it, but can’t actually communicate a reason it is bad.
Banning a play because 1 team is really good at running it would be incredibly soft of the league. The Packers should be ashamed of themselves for even submitting the proposal.
Instead of trying to ban plays, do what the Eagles did, and invest in the O-Line. Get 5 really big, really skilled guys up front, have your QB hit the weight room, and then maybe you too can make 1-yard situations automatic. Until then, stop running to the league to try and stop a play because you can’t stop it yourselves.
