Cam Newton’s Eagles Take Is Worse Than His Super Bowl Performance
Cam Newton is known for a few things. His great season at Auburn, his 1 great season in the NFL, having weird outfits, and not diving on the fumble in the Super Bowl. But now he might be known for something else, having some of the worst takes in sports.
Cam Newton was on First Take on Thursday and said this nonsense.
I am sorry, what? The Eagles beat all 5 AFC teams they played this year. The Ravens, Steelers, Bengals Browns, and Jaguars. The Jaguars and Browns aren’t that impressive, but the Ravens and Bengals each have one of those “game-changers” Newton is talking about.
Take it a step further, and Hurts is 15-4-1 vs the AFC in his career as a starter. 3 of those losses came in 2021. Since then he has lost just 1 regular season game to an AFC team, plus the Super Bowl. In the last 3 seasons, the Jets are the only AFC team that has beaten the Eagles in the regular season. Last season Hurts and the Eagles beat the Chiefs, the Bills, The Dolphins, and the Patriots. In 2022 the Eagles swept the AFC South and beat the Steelers.
There are only 3 AFC teams Hurts has not beaten, the Raiders, the Chargers, and the Jets. He is undefeated vs the North and the South, undefeated vs the rest of the East, and is 1-2 vs the Chiefs.
If Cam Newton had done the barest bit of research he might have saved himself some trouble. But that is not the Cam Newton way. This is the sports take equivalent of standing there and staring at a fumble while the Broncos recover it.
This take is worse than Cam Newton’s performance in the Super Bowl. That is saying something considering he was terrible in that game. He went 18 for 41, threw no TDS vs 1 pick, and lost 2 fumbles. It was an all-time stinker, especially from a QB that won MVP that same season. But just lazily suggesting Hurts couldn’t hang in the AFC when in his career he has dominated against AFC teams, is lazy even by his low standards.

The Chiefs are the major roadblock for every one of late. So yes it is harder to get to the Super Bowl out of the AFC just like it was once harder to get out of the Eastern Conference vs the Bulls back in the 90s. But there is no evidence, none, that the Eagles would suddenly be less special if they played in the AFC as Cam Newton suggests.
Cam Newton Is Full Of Bad Takes
Cam Newton also said this on the same show. Something you know you would never hear from Jalen Hurts. Because, unlike Newton, Hurts is actually a winner.
Newton brings up Nick Foles as if he doesn’t want to be like Nick Foles. But if Nick Foles walks into a bar in Philly, everyone is losing their mind. Does anyone anywhere care if they see Cam Newton? Are fans offering to buy a beer for Cam? Is he as much of a legend in Charlotte as Foles is in Philly?
“What is more important impact or championships?”
Well first off, it is championships. That is not even a question. But I hate to break it to you Cam, outside of 1 season, you didn’t make much impact in the Pros either.
