Dr. J- Sixers Are “Primed And Ready To Do Something Special”
Yesterday the Sixers did something very cool. They unveiled a newly refurbished basketball court at Roberto Clemente Playground in Philly. The Mike Missanelli show was on site and got not only a chance to check out the new court but also to talk to a Sixers legend, Julius Erving, better known by fans as Dr. J.
Dr. J Has High Hopes For The Sixers
After speaking on the court to the community, he was kind enough to hop on the Mike Missanelli Show. They talked about a lot, but Mike eventually asked Dr. J what he thought of the new-look Sixers after they brought in Paul George, Andre Drummond, and Caleb Martin, among other names.
The good doctor cautioned that it relies on them staying healthy, but he thinks this team has the potential to accomplish something special.
“Primed and ready to do something special. Under the conditions of staying healthy. Paul George and Joel Embiid have an injury history… I think Nick Nurse will handle that well. He has championship experience… Boston ain’t invincible… With this team, we have to be one of the top 3…”
The health part is key. Both Joel Embiid and Paul George have a reputation for being injury-prone. George stayed healthy last season, but Embiid had his least healthy season in a while.

But if they do stay healthy, watch out. The combination of Embiid, George, Maxey, and the pieces they put around those 3 could make for a dangerous team. The most dangerous one they have had yet.
They had James Harden at one point, but Tyrese Maxey was not this version of Maxey yet. When they had Jimmy Butler Embiid was not the player he is now, and Ben Simmons… well he was Ben Simmons. They have tried other 3-headed monster combinations, but none that looked like the team they have now.
Dr. J also discussed how much he still hates the Celtics, his thoughts on the Olympic Basketball Team, his work with the Big 3 Basketball league, and a funny story about a time Mike Miss interviewed him back in the day. You can watch the full interview below.
