97.5 The Fanatic Phillies Notebook: Tatis To Unveil Rocky Cleats
The Philadelphia Phillies have won or split six series in a row to improve to 16-10. They’ll now travel to the West Coast for six games, where Fernando Tatis Jr. could steal the show with some stylish Philadelphia-themed cleats paying tribute to Rocky.
Phillies vs. Chicago White Sox (Citizens Bank Park)

- Saturday 4/20: Win 9-5
- Sunday 4/21: Win 8-2
Phillies vs. Cincinnati Reds (Great American Ballpark)

Fernando Tatis Jr.: Rocky Cleats?
The San Diego Padres phenom will unveil 50 different pairs of cleats during the 2024 season. One of his creative ideas so far was a tribute to franchise legend Tony Gwynn.
He also wore a baseball-ized version of Steph Curry’s basketball shoes when the Padres played in the Bay Area against the San Francisco Giants. He even paid tribute to one of his father’s most unlikely accomplishments.
Eduardo Perez dropped a pretty obvious hint about Tatis’ plans against the Phillies. His “Yo, Adrian!” line on Baseball Tonight spoiled a Rocky theme.
Philadelphia fans gush over ideas like Bryce Harper’s Phillie Phanatic cleats. Will they accept an opposing player like Fernando Tatis Jr. paying homage to a local favorite like Rocky with new cleats though?

Ranger Suarez: Scoreless Inning Streak
Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola form an excellent 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation. However, the compliments to the Phillies and their starting pitchers need to extend beyond the top two.
Ranger Suarez pitched seven shutout innings against the Reds on Monday to extend his scoreless inning streak to 25.
Ranger Suárez has thrown 25 consecutive scoreless innings. It is the longest streak by a Phillies pitcher since Cliff Lee threw 30 2/3 scoreless innings from Aug. 17 – Sept. 10, 2011, according to @EliasSports

Rob Thomson lauded Suarez after the victory at Great American Ballpark.
“He’s a pitcher. He just changes speeds. He (can) locate. He throws strikes with all his pitches. He’s just, he’s a pitcher. He does all the little things, (has) a lot of intangibles, holds runners, fields his position. I know Wheels (Wheeler) won the Gold Glove, but this guy’s in the conversation as well. He’s a complete pitcher.” –Rob Thomson
Ranger Suarez has a long way to go before he catches Orel Hershiser for the MLB record. The former Dodgers ace threw 59 consecutive scoreless innings during the 1988 regular season and extended the streak to 67 with eight shutout innings in the playoffs.
Cliff Lee is in reach, and Grover Cleveland Alexander holds the franchise record with 41 consecutive scoreless innings in 1911.
Harper’s Absence Changes Lineup Complexion
Kody Clemens helped distract fans from the three-game stint Bryce Harper spent on the paternity list. The short-term call-up went 2-4 with a double and a three-run home run in his only start on Monday.
However, the Phillies lineup suddenly looked underwhelming without Harper.
Kyle Schwarber is one of the best home run hitters in the major leagues, but Nick Castellanos has struggled early in the season. Alec Bohm and J.T. Realmuto are good hitters, but they aren’t the most threatening pair in the meat of an order for a World Series contender.
Edmundo Sosa, Cristian Pache, Johan Rojas, and Garrett Stubbs occupied the last four spots of the batting order on Wednesday night.
The Phillies might be in the market for another bat by July.
Harper used the “dad strength” to announce his return on Thursday. He hammered a two-run homer in the third inning to put the Phillies up 4-0. They went on to split the series behind six shutout innings from Zack Wheeler.
Bryce Harper hit a home run in his first game back from the Paternity List.
