How Will Howie Roseman Handle Haason Reddick Situation?
It is the offseason tradition here in Philadelphia to be outraged over a decision made by GM Howie Roseman, and the latest panic is over his decision to allow Haason Reddick to seek a trade. There are certainly examples where Roseman’s choices have hurt the Eagles, but overall, his strategies have provided us with many exciting bites at the apple.
With one year left on his contract, it’s clear that Reddick wants job security and more importantly upfront cash. There is obviously a difference in what that figure should be. What appears to be a mistake could be pure genius.

Cap considerations and compensation will need to be right for Philly to sign off. But one of Eagles top defensive players could be on the move.
Paying Older Pash Rushers in the NFL.
It is a fact that 30+ defensive players at impact positions tend to drop off in production faster than interior lineman do. Cornerbacks and edge rushers usually peak in their mid to late twenties. There are exceptions, and Reddick has been amazing in his two seasons as an Eagle with 27 sacks.
That same thing could have been said about the Eagles starting corners who both had down seasons in 2023. Buyer beware on extending guys out of desperation.
Does he fit with the Vic Fangio defense?
Whether we agree or not, the decision could have something to do with the desire of Vic Fangio to have him be a part of the new plan. If fans are expecting this to be a blitz-happy attack they are going to be disappointed. What fans can expect is a historically competent and above average defense. It’ll likely be up to Reddick whether or not that includes a place for him.
How Much Is Reddick Worth?
Haason Reddick is now shopping his talents to the other 31 NFL franchises. If I was to make an educated guess, the Eagles offered his representation an extension already. It just wasn’t to his liking in either dollar value or term. Now, he will see if some other team is willing to give him what he desires. It’s my expectation that the Eagles will hear from him when he does his due diligence. Then, they’ll decide if they want to match his price.
Trust Howie Roseman
I’m going to choose to believe that Howie Roseman understands the business game of poker that he is playing. Make no mistake. It’s a dangerous game of chicken. You can doubt Roseman at your own risk. I don’t believe that anything we have heard about this situation signals a mistake by the Eagles organization.
