Schefter: ‘Write It Down’, Vic Fangio To Become Eagles Defensive Coordinator
While Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni discussed the need for new coordinators entering the 2024 season, a report surfaced about Vic Fangio during a 40-minute press conference recapping the 2023 season for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Adam Schefter expanded on his report on The John Kincade Show and later said that Fangio will now officially sign the contract to become Philadelphia’s defensive coordinator.

Adam Schefter Speaks on Vic Fangio
The connection wasn’t too hard to determine, and Schefter moved it along to the point of a slam dunk. The Eagles reportedly wanted Vic Fangio to replace Jonathan Gannon after the loss in Super Bowl LVII. It was the focus of their gripe with Gannon’s mishandling of the process to become the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.
Fangio played a major role in developing the defensive philosophy that the Eagles have adopted in recent seasons. Sean Desai attempted to bring many elements to the same approach.
“I expect Vic Fangio to be the defensive coordinator. I expect that to move quickly. I would be floored if he’s not the guy, so you can take that and write it down that he’s going to be the guy.”

Eagles Entering 2024
Schefter spoke on The John Kincade Show about Fangio’s potential plan with the Eagles. Will he restructure the defense based on his own system? Will he adjust to the talent already on the roster?
“I think it’s a little bit of both to be honest with you. I think he does play to a scheme, of course, but he’s going to adjust to his talent as well. He’d like to feature guys on the edge, edge rushers. That’s a primary component. To me, Vic is someone who’s so smart defensively that he figures out how to get it done with the strength of the defense. I believe he’ll do that in Philly.” -Adam Schefter
The Eagles have invested heavily on the defensive line as part of their organization’s approach to roster construction. They haven’t allocated nearly the same amount of resources toward the linebacker and safety positions.
Howie Roseman and Sirianni will now focus on finding a new offensive coordinator to improve a “stale” offense that faded down the stretch in 2024.
“They’re going through a little bit more of a process. That’s a little bit more involved in my mind than the search for a defensive coordinator. Defensive coordinator is easy and done. Offensive coordinator is not as cut and dry.” -Schefter
