Adam Schefter Declares “Identity” of the 2023 Philadelphia Eagles
Adam Schefter joined The John Kincade Show for his weekly appearance to discuss the Philadelphia Eagles. He spoke about Darius Leonard in free agency, the Super Bowl LVII rematch on Monday Night Football, and the supposed identity of the 2023 Eagles.
He credited ESPN producer Drew Gallagher, a “religious” listener to The John Kincade Show, with an excellent point about the ugly victories the Eagles have piled up.
Eagles Establishing Identity
The team with the best record in the NFL isn’t impressing the pundits with style points. Their sloppy victory against the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t exactly indicate the skill level of two teams who won their conferences last season.
The repeated weekly narrative of pointing out mistakes that will eventually catch up to the Eagles is losing merit. They just overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half of a road game against the defending Super Bowl champions.
“The Eagles’ identity this year may just turn out to be a team that plays an imperfect but winning style of football, which would be very on-brand for the entire NFL in 2023… This may just be that the Eagles play like this, that it’s not always fancy. It’s not always pretty. It’s not always their best football, but it’s winning football.” -Adam Schefter
Six of Philadelphia’s nine victories in 2023 have come in one-possession games. Their ability to land on the right side of a close score is a tribute to their knack for leaning on their most talented players to make game-changing plays in critical moments.
Nick Sirianni is 34-14 as an NFL head coach. The Eagles have a 23-2 record in regular-season games started by Jalen Hurts since the beginning of the 2022 season. They’re the top team in the NFL in the midst of one of the best sustained streaks in franchise history.
Adam Schefter Gives Message to Eagles Fans
The most passionate fan base in professional sports will inevitably react to mistakes, no matter how big or small, whether the Eagles win or lose.
A heartbreaking loss in Super Bowl LVII set a high bar for the 2023 season. Anything but a championship is a disappointment. The Eagles certainly need to clean up careless turnovers, penalties in key spots, and imperfect defense. Schefter pointed out another way to look at Philadelphia’s 2023 season.
“It reminds me of life itself. You’re trying to enjoy the ride, but everybody’s trying to move ahead in their own lives be it personally or professionally. It’s the nature for all of us. You want to get better, and sometimes, you lose sight of enjoying the ride.” -Adam Schefter
It’s great philosophical stuff from the NFL’s best insider. Philadelphia fans should consider the message.
The Eagles have appeared in seven NFC Championship Games and three Super Bowls during the 21st century. They have been tied or in control of the best record in the league after every week of NFL football since the beginning of the 2022 season.
Don’t give up your passion. Don’t stop acknowledging the flaws of a good team. However, don’t let it ruin the ride of another excellent season.

“The journey is the part you’re supposed to be enjoying. They’re 9-1. There’s a lot of happy weeks right now that everybody should be enjoying, knowing that there are places they want to and can get to here. That’s what makes it fun.” -Adam Schefter
