Damian Lillard Tweets Tease He May Want To Play in Philly
The Damian Lillard saga with the Trailblazers has been an interesting one. Besides perhaps Bradley Beal, no NBA player has been more wishy-washy of whether he wants to stay or be traded. And that wishy-washy nature has several times made Dame the apple of Sixers fan’s eyes. Before the James Harden trade was ever a thing, Damian Lillard was the guy many Sixers fans wanted to trade Ben Simmons for. And at times it even felt like that was what Dame wanted too. But it never came to be. Dame stayed in Portland, and eventually, the Sixers traded Ben Simmons for James Harden. And that was the end of the Dame rumors.
But now James Harden has lost the favor of Sixers fans. His awful performance in the Celtics series has many Sixers fans wanting to move on. Yesterday he opted out of his contract, with the report being he wants a 4-year deal. That might be what the Sixers give him. But there is an opening, albeit an unlikely one, that they choose to go down another road. And that has Sixers fans once again dreaming of Damian Lillard.
Dame himself is not doing anything to dissuade those dreams either. After the game 7 loss, Dame retweeted something Embiid said that was taken out of context. The tweet made it seem like Embiid was throwing his team under the bus. And Dame quote tweeted it saying “huh.” Later someone showed him the full clip, and Dame set the record straight. But it was something else Dame said in the tweet, that has some fans thinking he would be interested in coming here.
I saw the full. And I love Embiid… I also love their roster … did I miss or did you? Basketball talk not personal. https://t.co/MIOYjaTJYr

Oh, you love the Sixers roster? Well maybe if he does, he would be interested in playing on it. For that to happen though, he would want out of Portland. Something as already stated, he has not been clear if that is what he wants in the past. Damian Lillard did however later follow up with this tweet.
…
If the fans wana trade me … start the petition and send it in 🤷🏽♂️ https://t.co/zOjGRBh8rD

Does this mean he wants out? Or is it just typical Dame fanning the flames but not actually meaning it? Whatever the case, it’s the type of tweet that has Sixers fans salivating. One Blazers fan did call him out for being so wishy-washy, to which Dame responded with this.
I been on the same time over a decade lol … I’m just saying if the ppl got different wishes 🤷🏽♂️ https://t.co/qqp2qzRsFh

So he either wants out or he doesn’t. And he may want to play here, or maybe not. Yep, we are right back where we were during the Ben Simmons drama. With Sixers fans trying to decipher what exactly it is that Dame wants, and daydreaming that the Sixers could somehow get Dame here.
The chances of that move are unlikely. It would require Dame to commit to asking out. Then he would need to want to come here. The Sixers would need to have the best package to go out and get him when besides Maxey they don’t have much of value right now. They would need to make the money work. And it would likely require working something out to move Harden as well. So it is a pipe dream.
But with how awful things are with the Sixers right now, I think it is okay for us to dream a little bit. Because the prospect of somehow pulling off a trade for Damian Lillard is a lot better than committing to 4-years at max money with James Harden.
