Anthony’s Opening Diatribe- A Truly Gutless Effort By The Sixers
In Anthony Gargano’s Opening Diatribe, He Talked About the Gutless Effort By the Sixers in Game 7
“Let me first offer a condolence to the fans. Who obviously cared more than the Sixers did yesterday. I am sorry you had to watch that and deal with that. There are losses, and there are variant types of losses that stain. I think about 1 bloody nil. When the Phillies lost to the Cardinals in Game 5. I think about the Tampa loss in 2002 that closed the Vet. But yesterday’s loss was worse than all of them. Yesterday’s loss goes down in infamy. Because yesterday’s loss was an embarrassing, truly gutless effort.
In a game 7. In a game that really was a legacy game. God bless Jayson Tatum. He played incredible and deserved to win. But the fans of Philadelphia deserved an effort. This team crumbled. This team withered and died. Doc Rivers had no answer. And I am devasted by Joel Embiid’s performance. Both on the floor and off it. During the game with his body language. And then his responses after the game. Those were the words of someone who is delusional.
What you do is you fall on the sword. Instead of shifting the blame. Anyone else besides him should never have come out of his mouth. It’s not a team effort. It was you. Whether you believe other guys played a role in you, you have to fall on the sword. That is what a leader does, that is what a winner does. The leader falls on the sword and takes the brunt of it for his teammates.
Quite frankly, I am completely devasted by this loss. If you lose 113-110, and Tatum has that game, hey they beat you, what are you going to do? But when you show no fight? You aren’t going to win every game. But to wave the white flag. That is what is so sad.
The Sixers are near and dear to my heart. But 40 years since a title. What’s worse than anything is they have now ruined Father’s Day and Mother’s Day. They withered, died, moped, and were afraid and timid.
The Sixers showed no fight. That is what is hard to forgive. What is that?
We went from being up 3-2, to this. And the problem is, when you have a performance like that, it is deeper than just a loss.”
