Kenny Smith Talks Sixers Game 5 Win with Anthony Gargano
NBA analysts Kenny Smith (L) and Charles Barkley laugh during a live telecast of "NBA on TNT"
The Sixers went up to Boston last night and crushed the Sixers in game 5. A double-digit win, on the Celtics floor, despite being 7.5-point underdogs. Meaning they now come back to Philly tomorrow night, needing just one more win to seal the series and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. And to discuss last night’s win, the rest of the series, and what could happen tomorrow night. Kenny Smith from Inside the NBA on TNT joined The Anthony Gargano Show.
One of the things Anthony asked Kenny Smith was about the maturation process of Joel Embiid.
“The recognition is the last part of the work. He has been putting in this work for years. The recognition came from the MVP award. Even when you are second, which is what he has been, I forgot he was second. Joker won. 20 years from now they won’t remember that Joel Embiid was second. I have no idea who was 2nd to Kevin Durant when he won. The recognition brings calmness to your game. We saw last night, there was a calmness in the fire.”
And Anthony also asked Kenny Smith about how he is feeling about the Sixers-Celtics series after the Sixers went up 3-2.
“The only thing that you have to be worried about… the Boston Celtics were in this same spot last year against the Bucks. Down 3-2. Had to go on the road, win that game, and then come back and win game 7. They did that. There is some experience on how to act. they have been there before. So they won’t be worried about the situation. You have to beat the,. So I would still be worried if I were Philly, because of that.”
Kenny also discussed his new Book ‘Talk of Champions: Stories of People Who Made Me: A Memoir’. Which you can check out here.

Audio Vault- Sixers Crush the Celtics in Game 5
See what Andrew Salciunas found in the Audio Vault today. Every day on The Anthony Gargano Show, Andrew dives into the Vault to pull out audio relevant to the day. Which they then play at 11 am. Today, there was only one option for what he would play. After the Sixers’ big win in game 5 over the Celtics, they relived it. Playing the best moments, as called by Tom McGinnis, in the Audio Vault today.
It was a great all-around game for everyone. Joel Embiid played like an MVP. 33 points, and 4 blocks. Harden played like a true point guard. he racked up 10 assists with just 2 turnovers. Tyrese Maxey finally woke up, going off for 30 points on 6-12 shooting from deep. Even Tobias Harris contributed on offense, racking up 16 points before getting in foul trouble. The Sixers wound up winning 115-103. Giving them a 3-2 series lead, meaning if they can win at home on Thursday night, they will take the series.
But before we get to that game 6, let’s revisit just how fun game 5 was. The raining 3s from Tyrese Maxey. The Embiid blocks. Danuel House randomly giving them points off the bench. Harden and Embiid running the pick-and-roll to perfection. it was a game so fun, it is worth living through twice.
Andrew replayed all those best moments in the Audio Vault today. You can listen to it all, along with Andrew and Anthony’s reaction, in the podcast at the bottom of the page.
