Jim Lynam- Sixers Have the Best Offensive Scheme in the NBA
For years the Sixers have been struggling to get past the second round of the playoffs. First, it was a loss to the Celtics in 2018. The next year Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors took them out in the 2nd round on a shot that bounced off the rim 4 times. Then they lost in the first round of the bubble year. In 2021, they hit a low point losing to the Hawks in the 2nd round. And last season with Embiid hurt, they fell to the Heat in 6 games. But could this year be different? Coach Jim Lynam joined Anthony Gargano to discuss this year’s Sixers team and had some pretty high praise.
First, he talked about how he likes that they are getting the other guys more involved…
“The reason for me that this was a really good start to Sixers’ playoff basketball is if they are going to get where they want to go, they need to get everyone involved… Harden and Embiid are so good at playing two-man basketball… It may be the best pick-and-roll ever, and I mean that literally… But you need to get those others, like Tyrese Maxey involved, when they are doubling Embiid. And I will quote Tobias Harris, “I have been more involved.” Its not that Harris can’t play, you can’t score points if you are just standing around and not touching the basketball.”
And Jim Lynam had some praise for Doc Rivers and the Sixers Coaching staff for their scheme when it comes to dealing with double teams…
“You have to give some credit to the coaching staff… If you have a star player, I will tell you what your best play must be. It better be playing against the double. You have no control of how often the other team is going to double your Super Star. When it goes out of his hands, the other guys better know what they are going to do. And the scheme that the Sixers have, and the way they execute it, literally it is the best in the NBA.”
