The Eagles have been mostly quiet thus far in the Legal Tampering period. Their only moves were resigning veterans Brandon Graham and Jason Kelce. Meanwhile, they saw TJ Edwards, Marcus Epps, Andre Dillard, and Javon Hargrave all walk in free agency. but they finally made a splash, not a large one, but a small one, by bringing in RB Rashaad Penny. They agreed to a one-year deal with the 27-year-old RB, per Ian Rappoport.
Rashaad Penny had been with the Seahawks since they drafted him in 2018. They spent the 27th overall pick on him. In those 5 seasons, he gained 1.918 yards and scored 14 total TDs. When healthy he has performed very well. The problem has been staying on the field. In 2019 he tore his ACL in week 14. He didn’t return until December in 2020. In 2021 he landed back on the injured reserve for a few weeks, But once returned he did have the best season of his career, gaining 749 yards on 119 carries, with 6 TDs. But then this past season he only played five games before suffering a broken fibula that ended his season.
But whenever he is on the field, you can see why he was once a first-overall pick. He averaged 6.3 yards per carry in 2021, and 6.1 before getting hurt in 2022. His 346 yards in 5 games last year would be 1,176 over a full season. Health will always be a question for him until he can get through a full season. But there is no denying his ability when he is on the field.
Rashaad Penny has been one of the more explosive running backs in the NFL over the last two seasons when healthy.

Penny has averaged the most yards after contact (4.6) and rushing yards over expected (+1.8) among RB since 2021 (min. 100 carries).@pennyhendrixx | @Eagles https://t.co/OWHOzTZd9M pic.twitter.com/1L1oJY7p0h
Penny joins an RB room that is currently pretty shallow. Both Miles Sanders and Boston Scott are free agents. It is expected that Miles Sanders will not be returning, and this move pretty much confirms that. Boston Scott could still come back on another small deal. Penny will have the chance to take the reigns of the RB position. But he will have to compete with Kenny Gainwell who came on strong in the playoffs.
