Bo Wulf- “It’s Too Early to Be Concerned” About Eagles Free Agency
Eagles’ free agency has not been off to the hottest of starts. As expected, many of their big-name free agents are signing elsewhere. Javon Hargrave is heading to the 49ers. Marcus Epps went to Vegas. And both of their Linebackers signed elsewhere. We are still waiting on word of James Bradberry and CJ Gardner Johnson. But the consensus has been that they may be gone too. But when Bo Wulf from The Athletic joined The Best Show Ever, he said it is probably too early to be concerned about the Eagles’ offseason.
“It is too early to be concerned. You sort of have to let things play out. We learned that lesson last off-season when they found James Bradberry in May to fill-in opposite Darius Slay. We do need to be a little bit patient.”
With that said, he did not hold back that things will be different. He ran through the different positions on defense. And while he thought things could be okay eventually at linebacker, CB, and DT because of Howie’s history at those positions, he was not sure how they would go about fixing Safety.
“Safety is the one where I am curious to see what they are going to do. Because if CJ Gardner Johnson doesn’t come back, you have got Reed Blankenship in-house. He looked like he could be an ok player as an undrafted rookie, but you are not going to rely on just him. There are plenty of veteran safeties still available. That market has been slow to develop so far. They will have options… I think right now, I would say a better chance that (Gardner-Johnson) doesn’t return.. but I dont feel super confident about that.”
Bo Wulf also went on to suggest that the Eagles could pivot to focusing on having a great offense, and hope that can overcome any faults of the defense. But we knew coming into this offseason, with so many defensive free agents, that they would not be able to retain all of them. And this is now two Eagles reporters suggesting that patience will be required with the Eagles this off-season.
