Paul Hudrick Discusses The Sixers With The Best Show Ever
The Sixers are heading into the final 25 games of their season coming out of the All-Star Break. It is a brutal stretch of games, and most of it comes on the road. What will this run tell us about this team? To discuss that, Paul Hudrick from Liberty ballers joined the show. He discussed the tough stretch coming up, James Harden looking much healthier this year, and more. See what Paul Hudrick had to say below…
On what these 25 games will tell us about this team…
“This stretch will tell you a lot about this team. I think one of the things people will critique them for is that sometimes their mental toughness is lacking. Even they admitted that last year. Joel Embiid was basically lobbying to get PJ Tucker in here. Or Tobias Harris saying they just didn’t have the mental toughness that the Miami Heat did last year. This march schedule is particularly awful…There is going to be a measure of mental toughness that will either rise to the surface or die… There is no excuse right now. They had a really good first half. Since Harden and Embiid came back they have the best record in the NBA. So this is a team where I think there are reasons for optimism. But this stretch run is going to be big, and it will tell us a lot about them.”
On the difference James Harden is making…
“He is just so much healthier this year than what we saw last year. The version we saw last year wasn’t James Harden… His playmaking is off the charts. Obviously leads the league in assists… The one stat that keeps going around is that no player has assisted more on one player’s baskets than Joel Embiid and James Harden. He makes Joel Embiid better, as great as Embiid already is.
If you are looking for points of optimism, that this team might get over the hump, it’s the half-court offense. And the half-court offense exists because of James Harden. Everything is more fluid. He gets guys great looks. Still has gravity as a scorer. You still see him pull guys away, which helps Joel Embiid obviously… And you just see the burst to the rim that really just want there at all last year. He looks so much healthier, and that is the biggest reason why he looks so much better.”
