Rob McElhenney Teases a Chase Utley Cameo On Twitter
Chase Utley is back in Philadelphia.
Well, sort of.
He’s back in the fictional version of the city, at least according to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney on Twitter. The actor and Philadelphia sports superfan tweeted a video that seems to promote the appearance of Chase Utley in the series’ upcoming season.
Should be a real home run! ⚾️ @Phillies pic.twitter.com/3NvCtQS8F2

Utley is the subject of one of the great episodes in the show’s history, where McElhenney’s character, Mac, attempts to get his friend Dee to run on the field to kiss Chase Utley in order to deliver Mac’s letter to the Phillies’ second baseman.
The episode is entitled “The World Series Defense” and was the fifth episode of the sixth season. You can watch all 15 seasons of the show on Hulu.
“He’s a power hitting http://gty.im/1151356673 second baseman, you know how rare that is?” Mac says to Dee in the hilarious nearly two minute back and forth over the letter.
In the show’s sixth season, Utley and fellow 2008 World Series Champion Ryan Howard guest starred on an episode in which they end up partying with the gang in Atlantic City.
Outside of the show, Utley responded to the letter in 2013 and has since thrown out two first pitches to McElhenney at Citizens Bank Park, including at the 2022 World Series.
The former superstar second baseman clearly has a big year ahead of him, both appearing on the popular sitcom and the National Baseball Hall of Fame Ballot for the first time in 2024. http://gty.im/1151356673
