Matt Breen Joins to Discusses Nick Sirianni’s Road to the Super Bowl
Nick Sirianni is a big part of the reason the Eagles find themselves in the Super Bowl. Even if he did get snubbed for Coach of the Year for a guy he beat 3 times this season. He has gone from a bit of a punchline to a coach about to see his team play on the biggest stage. And Matt Breen from The Philadelphia Inquirer recently wrote an interesting piece about what shaped Nick Sirianni into the coach he is today. He joined The Best Show Ever today to discuss Sirianni, the job he has done this season, and more. See what Matt Breen had to say below.
On if Nick Sirianni thinks he is a better coach than Andy Reid
“You have to think like that. You can’t go in there and bend the knee to Andy Reid… I don’t think Doug Pederson bowed to Bill Belichick. Obviously, Belichick is a better coach than Pederson is. But is that going to do you any good if you go into the Super Bowl thinking that? No. Nick Sirianni is the same way. He respects Andy Reid. We all can agree Andy has had a Hall of Fame career. But if you are going to go in there thinking he is a better head coach than me, that is not going to do you any good.
Nick Sirianni seems to be a very confident coach. He believes in what he does. And has taken the right steps to get to where he is. He didn’t cut any corners. There were no shortcuts to this spot for him. I think he is ready for it.”
On using being fired by Andy Reid as fuel
“Andy Reid fired Nick Sirianni. And he allowed a little bit of a view into how he feels about that when he said when the Chargers beat the Chiefs when he was an assistant coach there, how much it meant to him… Let’s go back to the Colts game, and the way Nick Sirianni reacted, saying this is for Frank Reich. He uses this as fuel. That is going to fuel him on Sunday that he is going against the guy who fired him. Right or wrong. Coaches have a right to have new assistants. But he uses that as a bit of an edge.”
