Philadelphia Wings Home Opener
By: Haley Taylor Simon
The Philadelphia Wings home opener is tonight, January 14th at 7pm. The Wings host Panther City at the Wells Fargo Center. The Wings played three games prior to their home opener tonight. Coached by Paul Day, Philadelphia heads into tonight’s game with a 2-1 record with a 0.667 win percentage. After defeating the Las Vegas Desert Dogs 14-9, last Friday, key players to keep your eyes on tonight are Ben Mcintosh who accumulated a sellar five goals. Matt Rambo with five assists to contribute to the high scoring win. In net Zach Higgins with 42 saves with only 9 going in. Lacrosse is a naturally high scoring sport, but when you compare that to Vegas’ goalie who only had 24 saves and let in 14; it’s evident how crucial Higgins is to the Wings.

During Media Day I spent time with Trevor Baptiste, George Downey, Matt Rambo, and Blaze Riorden who were telling me about their enthusiasm for tonight’s game. The guys expressed how they can’t wait for the fans to utilize the Wings’ new “Party Section” where fans are up against the glass with unlimited beers and seltzers for only 45 dollars! When asking about the environment at a Wings game they told me how passionate the fans are and how it’s like one big party.
Evidently, it was to my surprise that I would be coached by Blaze and George on how to be a Philadelphia Wing. As they were teaching me how to scoop, pass, catch, and even shoot, the best part was Blaze showing me how he does a proper “celly” after scoring a goal. It was clear how strong of a bond these guys have as Blaze was beaming of joy when talking about how it’s the best feeling to celebrate with his teammates. This is George’s first year with the Wings and told me how stocked he is and is soaking everything in leading up to the home opener.
Media day with the Wings was a blast. It’s going to be a fun season ahead with the guys as their home opener is tomorrow night. (Also the worlds best coaches for teaching me how to play) pic.twitter.com/I8SdPxXz0Q

I got a feel last season when I went to see the Wings play, and I had a blast! The crowed at Wings games vary from Families, teenagers, young adults, couples, and it’s an environment that is for everyone! The best part about the Wings games is that it’s affordable! To sit in the lower bowl it’s only $20 which is a steal for a team that is one of the best in the NLL (National Lacrosse League). It’s a bye weekend for the Eagles, and if you want to still get involved with all the sports action tonight my suggestion would be to see your Philadelphia Wings who are looking to get their third win in a row tonight.
