Eagles Make a Statement vs the Tennessee Titans
Coming into the week everyone said the Titans would test the Eagles. Well someone forgot to tell them that. Because they came out and made a big statement vs a Titans team that won 7 of their last 9 games coming into today. And they made it look easy. Winning 35-10 in a game the Titans pretty much never had a chance in. Every single facet of the game looked good for the Eagles. Even the Specials team, who haven’t looked good in a single game this year.
It was supposed to be a big game vs Derrick Henry vs a struggling Eagles run defense. He barely had an impact in the game. The Eagles D Line smothered him every time he touched the ball. On 11 carries he gained just 30 yards. And his longest game of the day was for 6. He rushed for 0 first downs. Oh, and they got to Ryan Tannehill 6 times for good measure.
The Titans were supposed to stuff up the Eagles’ run attack. But the Eagles never even really tried to run. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ passing attack had their way in the air all game long. Hurts threw for 380 yards and two TDs. That is the great thing about this Eagles team. They can win in so many different ways. It’s almost a cliche to say at this point. But sometimes cliches exist because they ring true. And this is one of those cases.
Last week they exploited a matchup vs the Packers’ run defense. The passing numbers weren’t super impressive. But they didn’t have to be, because they could do whatever they want on the ground. And this week it was the Titans’ pass defense they knew they could exploit. So they attacked them through the air. This Eagles offense is built to attack any weakness a defense may have. We saw it last week and saw it again vs the Titans.
And AJ Brown got his revenge. Two long touchdowns from the former Titan. One came where he basically trucked the corner to have an easy stroll into the endzone. The other came when he Mossed the corner despite nearly perfect coverage. He finished the game with 119 yards, for 2 touchdowns on 8 catches. Devonta Smith added 102 yards and a TD on 5 catches.
You can already hear people around the NFL changing their tune. The Titans were supposed to be a test for the Eagles. But they passed that test with flying colors. And now you know they will say that the Titans aren’t actually that good. But they can’t change the narrative after the game. This was a statement by the Eagles. A statement by the offense, and the defense. The past few weeks made people forget how great this team is. But today they reminded everyone they are among the elite offenses in the NFL. And the defense is nothing to scoff at either.
