Flyers’ 10 Game Winless Streak Draws Concerns
By: Haley Taylor Simon
The Philadelphia Flyers are notably struggling after entering their longest winless streak of the season. The Flyers looked like they were going to end the streak against the Islanders on Saturday as they were leading 2-1 during the 2nd, but in good ole form the Islanders came back to dominate Philadelphia 5-2.
How did the Flyers get to 10 winless games?
While it feels like an eternity since the Flyers’ last win; it was November 8th against the Blues. 20 days later the Flyers have yet to put up points in the “w” column. The Flyers were able to secure one point in an overtime loss against the Blue Jackets who Philadelphia can’t seem to beat this season. When a team losses in overtime it becomes a winless streak and not a losing streak. Besides gaining a point against the Blue Jackets, a point was gained against the Canadians that ended in a shootout, and The Capitals who won in extra minutes. Between the 10 winless games, the Flyers accumulated 3 points out of a possible 20 points.
The Bigger Picture
To put it in perspective with the rest of the NHL The Bruins and Devils are leading in points with 36. The Golden Knights trail behind them with 33. The Flyers are second to last in the Metropolitan with 19 points ahead of the 15-point Blue Jackets team who is dominant against Philadelphia. The Capitals who are ahead of the Flyers have 21 points but did struggle against Philly for a little bit before gaining control of the game.
When will the streak end?
With a tough schedule ahead it’s hard to exactly say when the Flyers will finally win again. The Islanders, Lightning, and Devils come to Philly this week. The only game that Philadelphia should win is December 11th against the Coyotes. Ideally, the streak will end before then, but it isn’t going to be an easy road ahead. Hopefully Allison, Konecny, and Coots retrurn soon to help improve this struggling roster.
