Has Tyrese Maxey Left Nike?
Since the start of Tyrese Maxey’s career in the NBA, the talented guard has worn Nike basketball sneakers in his games. The same can be said with the one year he spent at the University of Kentucky – a Nike school. That seems to have changed.
In early October during a preseason tilt against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Maxey had been spotted wearing the newest version of New Balance sneakers. Yes, that New Balance — the company known more for their performance running shoes. Well, they’re back on the hoops scene and it appears that the Philadelphia 76ers standout is in their sights and at the very least trying them out.
The TWO WXY v3 model is what he’s been wearing and they look pretty cool. So far, a few of the colorways that he’s sported are the black/blue, white/grey, beige/blue and grey/blue flavors — they seem to be really dope and the change in brands has not taken away from his trademark speed on the court. New Balance made a big come back in the sport in 2018 when the inked sneaker free agent and NBA champion, Kawhi Leonard to a deal to become the face of the brand. The partnership seems to be going well as Leonard has his own signature shoe and apparel line. Other NBA players known to wear New Balance on the hardwood are Jamal Murray (Nuggets), All-Stars Zach Lavine (Bulls) and Dejounte Murray (Hawks), Aaron Nesmith (Pacers) and Darius Bazley (Thunder).
It’s unclear if Maxey has signed a new shoe deal with the brand, but since he hasn’t gone back to his usual Nike kicks you have to wonder. It would make sense for any shoe company to try and get ahead of things with the budding star while they can because what he presents could be easy to market. The smile, character, personality and talent at his job are just a few things that make him marketable.
P.S. – I have had the opportunity to be a tester for them before their initial release and nothing but great things to say about them. Thank you New Balance Hoops!
