Eagles Add More Depth To The D-Line
Another day, another new addition to the Philadelphia Eagles defensive line. A much-needed addition.
On Thursday, the Eagles announced the signing of veteran defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to a one-year deal. This move by general manager Howie Roseman comes on the heels of Wednesday’s announcement of vet Linval Joseph, another DT. Suh, 35, played in 17 games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021 – recording six sacks, 27 total tackles and 13 quarterback hits in the middle of the Bucs’ defensive front.
The Birds lost reserve lineman Marlon Tuipulotu to a knee injury in Monday night’s loss to the Washington Commanders. He joins rookie nose tackle Jordan Davis on Injured Reserve, prompting these moves by Roseman to beef up the line rotation. Philadelphia has done pretty well against the opponents rushing attack, but have had a few concerning outings with Davis missing time. Joseph and Suh should fit right in with all they’ve seen and adapt quickly. The question is, how much do they have left in the tank?
On Sunday, the Eagles will travel to Indianapolis to face the Colts and dynamic running back Jonathan Taylor. Last week, Taylor rushed for 147 yards on 22 carries in a win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The Birds will have a string of tough backs on their schedule going forward, including the duo of Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon (Packers), Derrick Henry (Titans), Saquan Barkley twice (NY Giants), David Montgomery (Bears), Ezekial Elliott and Tony Pollard (Cowboys) and Alvin Kamara (Saints). An impressive number of running backs that Philadelphia will have to gear up and slow down to continue piling wins and stay in the number one seed in the NFC Conference.
Suring the defensive line depth was very necessary in order to do that, and Roseman has done a nice job of addressing those needs. The results now need to follow.
