Anthony’s Opening Diatribe- Weird Encounters With Fans
See what Anthony Gargano had to say in his opening diatribe this morning about weird encounters he had recently…
I have had weird encounters all week. And yesterday was another series of odd encounters… One guy told me, “I’d rather lose to the Cardinals than lose in the World Series. What do you think you remember second place”. And listen, I’m not going to jump down the guy’s throat. But, I was like dude, you can’t look beyond the journey. Yea it sucks they didn’t win it. But that journey was rewarding. I loved that ride. The ride that began on that incredible Friday in St Louis, and last into November. It was one of the great rides of all time.
Yea you didn’t win. But does it always have to be zero-sum? If you want them to lose to the Cardinals and not have gone through that run because you are disappointed about no parade, then I think you are missing the whole point… When you have a fun run like that, there is a lot of good that occurs from that run. There were so many great memories and bonding experiences throughout the run.
I thought baseball was rebirthed from that run. I will go to the 93 Phillies or 2010 Flyers. These teams that got to the finals, which we still hold in high regard. Or the 2004 Eagles. I know they didn’t win. And it was frustrating that they never won the Super Bowl. But I still love that team. All this does is set the table for the next 5-7 years, because they are going to be a contender in that time. I don’t understand that notion of Id rather lose in the first round than suffer the disappointment of losing in game 6 of the World Series.
