Last night I did NFL Sirius Radio. I’m talking to the host. This is the 2nd time in less than a week I get the “So are the Eagles for real?”. Look I don’t think you need to be John Madden, to tell that the Eagles are good. I don’t even understand this whole line of questioning. Apparently, half of the national media do not believe that the Eagles are for real.
I’m scratching my head. What don’t you believe? Does it mean they are a lock for the Superbowl? No, you can get beat like any other team can get beat. But if you are being real, what is phony about the Eagles?
Let’s start with the QB. Because all the questions are about the QB. I think he’s improved. I’m not telling you he is Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes, cause he’s not. He will still miss throws. But he has improved dramatically. He is assertive, knows the offense, knows when to run, and he is making the right decisions. He knows where to go with the Football. I appreciate that. He takes care of the football. He does not turn the ball over. That’s a big deal. So the QB is a net positive.
Can you argue with the offensive line? It is clearly one of the best in football. You don’t need to be Ruynan to see that. Why are the Packers struggling? Well, they are struggling to protect Rodgers. Look what’s going on with the Rams. The Ram’s downfall is entirely due to the offensive line. Look at Tampa. Brady is showing his age, but if you protected Brady, he could still zing you to death. You have to protect. The Eagles protect. Now, look at their skill guys. Other than maybe Miami, number 2 on that is AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert. If Miami is 1, the Eagles are 2. That is your offense. Where is that phony?
Then you go defense. I know last week, the run game is a little bit of an issue. Without Jordan Davis, the run defense is a little vulnerable. But it is also because of the system that Gannon plays. He is going to want to keep everything in front of you. He is not going to blitz as much, and he is going to say go ahead and run the ball. I’d rather you run the ball on me than beat me down the field. And he is not wrong. Do I wish he was a little bit more aggressive? Yes. But he is not wrong in his line of thinking.
Their secondary is nasty. And you aren’t going to lose to a team that runs the ball in the playoffs. You are going to lose because Kirk Cousins goes to Jefferson all day long. Now Niners, they are going to try to grind you and win on defense. But everybody else is going to try to throw on you. And the Eagle’s secondary is good, their front is good as far as rushing the passer, and they have linebackers.
I look at this team, and this team is a good team. They are a legitimate 8-0.
