He was back to pulling great moments from this day in sports history. Today in the Vault, they honored Joe Frazier, revisited Magic Johnson’s shocking retirement, and played some iconic movie lines. Here is the lineup from today’s Audio Vault.
Anniversary of Jor Fraizer’s Death
On this day in 2011, Joe Fraizer unfortunately passed away. So to honor his memory, Andrew found the audio from his fight with Muhamad Ali, where Fraizer won by unanimous decision.
Magic Johnson Shocks The World By Retiring at 31
On this day in 1991, Magic Johnson shocked the world by announcing his retirement. Johnson was forced into early retirement when he was diagnosed with HIV. He was just 31 at the time, and in the prime of his career. But the general perception of HIV at the time was not well-educated. And some other star players were concerned that if they played against him they could contract the virus, even though that was not the case. Johnson would go on to play in the Olympics and mount an NBA comeback in 96. He became an advocate for people living with HIV, and helped fix the stigma around the disease. But it still derailed his career at the time.
Andrew pulled the audio from his initial announcement for the Audio Vault today.
