Random Thoughts after a tumultuous week

Phillies 2022 Obituary
I know there are going to be fans expressing anger, outrage and extreme disappointment. I understand their knee jerk reaction to pain. What I don’t understand is the complete lack of perspective IF these feelings last more than a few more hours. My favorite word in the English language is joyous. Thank you Phillies…that was the definition of joyous. On October 3rd they clinched a trip to the post season, not even promised a home game. They faced a Cardinals team that was a division champion and a tough home field edge. A magical 9th inning comeback started a magical ride that lasted until November 5th. If you don’t see the joy in that, I can’t help you.
‘That is not saying that disappointment shouldn’t be an emotion you completely feel. It’s honest and truly valid. You just can’t lose sight of the big picture. They were not the better team in the World Series. They battled their butts off except in an anemic Game 4 no-hitter by the Astros. I found great pride in this entire month. Beating the Cardinals, Braves and Padres was quite the accomplishment. I’m not going to let the mis-steps of Saturday night spoil the entire experience for me. I’d advise you to do the same.
The (8-0) Eagles are truly amazing
After 9 weeks of play, what if I had told you that the Eagles would have no losses while Aaron Rodgers and the Packers would have 6, the Tom Brady led Buccaneers would have 5 and the Super Bowl Champion Rams would have 5? You would be ecstatic. That is exactly how we all should feel. The Vikings are the closest team in the NFC within striking distance, 1.5 games back from the top spot and they visit Buffalo this weekend. Good Luck Kirk Cousins. The Bills lost yesterday and are going to be in a very bad mood. The 2nd place Cowboys are at the Packers and Vikings the next 2 weeks. One of those could be a loss and help the Eagles. The Giants have an easy couple weeks before facing the Cowboys in Dallas on Thanksgiving. Life is good in South Philly. They have another weekend off until they play the Commanders next Monday.
Tyrone had a great point on The Union collapse
I’ve been lectured by some soccer zealots that the term “4 for 4” is offensive and that Philly is truly a “5 for 5” city. I don’t buy it. I am thrilled to support the Union and their season which ended Saturday was also praiseworthy. To claim they should be on the same level as the Eagles, Phillies, 76ers..etc is crazy to me. It was great seeing bars full of people rooting the Union home to victory on Saturday. It’s growing in popularity and that is fantastic.
As Tyrone Johnson pointed out on social media, if the Union truly is worthy of “5 for 5” status they should and will be getting crushed for their collapse on Saturday. They had a championship in their grasp and let it slip away. A win would have hone a long way to securing a whole new generation of fans embracing the sport. They will get back after it next year and they certainly gave us reasons to celebrate this year.
