Anthony Gargano’s Opening Diatribe- So Many Opportunities
See What Anthony Gargano Has to say about that gut-wrenching loss today in his Opening Diatribe…
“So many opportunities!
It was turn after turn. Momentum switches. All kinds of chances. It was an incredible game. And unfortunately, we look up, and they are down 3-2 going back to Houston. Look, you’ve got Wheeler going into game 6. You go down tomorrow, Wheeler throws well hopefully. You can win that game, and in game 7 they get tight. There is a path where they can still win this thing. I woke up to a text from Charlie. “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings.”
I know it is tough this morning. We have to get through last night. Because I am not through last night. I look back at last night’s game. There were so many opportunities. it was just tortuorous. It starts out uplifting where you get out of the first inning unscathed apart from the 1 run. Syndergaard settles down, you get out of the inning. Alvarez strikes out, and you get Pena on the double play with a great throw by JT. Then you strike out Bregman. And Swarber comes up witht the HR to tie it.
They just had Verlander on the ropes every inning. That was the torturous part of last night’s game. You had him on the ropes constantly. Like in the bottom of the 2nd, bases loaded. Rhys can break open early. Verlander was wobbly. And what happens? He strikes out. In the 5th you had the Harper double, 2 outs. And again, Castellanos, who is killing us, flies out. Bottom of the 6th again, you had two on. Schwarber hits it on the nose, but he grounds out.
And then the 8th inning, 2 on 1 out. Segura who is slumping so badly lines it to the opposite field, base hit, Castellanos scores, Stott to third. They bring in the closer Pressley. Who you can get to. But Marsh had no chance. He just got overpowered. That was the killer.
It was that kind of game, that kind of night. It was just so damn close. So many opportunities. It was a gut-wrenching game They were so close to being up 3-2 going up to Houston.”
