Alex Rodriguez Discusses The World Series After 4 Games
We are 5 games into the World Series, and everything is even. The Phillies took games 1 and 3, and the Astros took games 2 and 4. And to get some insight into what we may see in these final 2 or 3 games, Anthony Gargano talked to Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod, who is obviously in Philly as an analyst for Fox in the World Series, talked about the impact of Philly fans, Rob Thomson, the play of Ranger Suarez, tonight’s matchup, and more. Here is some of what Alex Rodriguez had to say.
On Ranger Suarez
“Someone can pitch well, and somebody can throw hard. But what is really impressive is when someone so young has such composure. His heartbeat is in slow motion. First of all, he is a gold glove defender. And you can’t shake this guy. I was watching him the other day. You can’t tell if it is a Spring Training game, a mid-July game, or a World Series game. because this guy is a flat liner. And that is exactly what you need at this time of the year.”
On Nick Castellanos
“He has to put himself in a position to have quality at bats. This series is going to come down to 2 or 3 at bats where he has to deliver. And I’m not saying a HR, just a sac fly. He needs to have at bats where he doesn’t look unprofessional.”
On Tonight’s Game
“We have come to expect the unexpected… When you look at this on paper, you have to love Verlander and the Astros. Syndergaard can give you maybe 3 innings, and then get into that bullpen. Verlander is pitching for more than just the Astros. He is pitching for his World Series reputation. I think he is 0-7, with a 5 or 6 ERA in the World Series. He has not been good. So he is thinking if I can go out and pitch a gem, all will be forgiven… and for Syndergaard, there is really no pressure on him… The Key for the Phillies is to get ahead early, get this crowd behind you, and get that swagger back.”
