Phillies HR Parade Carries Them To Game 3 Win
Game 1 took a dramatic comeback. Framber Valdez mowed them down in game 2. But game 3 went a bit easier for them. 5 Homeruns carried the Phillies to a 7-0 game 3 win. Bryce Harper started it with a first-inning two-run blast. And from there it was whisper down the lane with Harper sharing some information that had the Phillies launching HR after HR off Lance McCullers all night. Alec Bohm, Brandon Marsh, Kyle Schwarber, and Rhys Hoskins lead to plant balls over the outfield wall.
Every single run they scored came off an HR. Their 5 blasts put them into a tie for the most in 1 World Series game. And McCullers became the first pitcher to ever give up 5 all on his own.
Rangers’ Big Night
But Harper’s initial HR was all they actually needed to win this one. Ranger Suarez pitched 5 shutout innings. He continued to be a smooth operator, never showing any signs of panic even in the couple of times he let runners get into scoring position. Apart from the Phillies’ great play at home, Suarez’s even-keeled demeanor has been one of the most steady things they have had going. Even when he struggled a bit against the Braves, he never gave in and battled to get out of tough situations. And Ranger has sailed on the mound in every other appearance. Including tonight against one of the best lineups in baseball.
To The Pen
And once he handed off the baton to the bullpen, they continued to do what they have been doing all postseason. The pen has yet to give up a run to this Astros team. They held down the fort in game 1 after Aaron Nola had a bad night. Which gave the Phillies a chance to come back and win it. And even in the loss in game 2, they kept the Phillies in it. With the big lead, they did not have to send out their big arms. But it turns out the smaller names can get it done too. Connor Brogdon gave way to Kyle Gibson, who gave way to Nick Nelson, followed by Andrew Bellatti. And those 4 combined for 4 shutout innings.
Two More Wins
And now the Phillies are up 2-1, with 2 more home games. As we saw tonight, the Phillies like playing at home. They are averaging around 7 runs per game here, and have yet to lose a game. It will be Nola tomorrow, and as of now a bullpen game on Friday. They will have a chance to party one last time at home if they can continue that trend of never losing at Citizen’s Bank Park. And with how the bats performed tonight against a good pitcher in Lance McCullers, they could certainly pull that off.
