Jayson Stark Previews the Phillies World Series
Every week we hear from Jayson Stark to discuss the Phillies. Usually, we don’t get to hear from him as late into the year, but the Phillies are in the World Series. So with them extending their season, we get to extend our time with the Hall of Fame Baseball writer. What did Jayson Stark have to say about this series? Check out his interview with us below…
On the Phillies vs Astro Match-up
The last team that any team lost the World Series when there was this big of a win disparity was 1906. The big thing about the Astros is their pitching is ridiculous. No one has found a way to score on them, other than game 1 of the NLDS, Verlander against the Mariners after a long layoff. It was interesting talking to scouts from other teams. They kept saying that Phillies are dangerous because they hit good pitching. I think that will come in handy because no one has pitching like this team. The Astors bullpen has been so untouchable that the only 3 runs they have allowed this postseason have come on solo homers. If the Phillies fall behind in this series, it is hard to envision these insane comebacks they have been having.
On Importance of Phillies Stars Stepping Up
Doesn’t it feel more important than ever that Phillies win all 4 of the Nola Wheeler starts? It is crazy to me that they are 4-0 when Syyndergarrd, Falter, and Suarez starts. That is going to be so much harder in this series. If you get behind 4 runs early in this series, Mike Clevinger is not walking to the mound. The Phillies have star power. it is time for those stars to carry them. I think you could make the case that the Phillies stars may be better than the Astors stars at this point. But once you stack up the depth of their roaster, vs the Phillies roster, I just don’t see how the Phillies win any series that comes down to that.
