Anthony Garagno’s Opening Diatribe- World Bleeping Series
See how Anthony Gargano reacted to the Phillies making the World Series below…
WORLD BLEEPING SERIES!
Are you kidding me? Bryce Harper, you’re the man. You’re the man Bryce.
What a weekend. What an incredible weekend to be a Philadelphian. Enjoy it baby. Brothers, sisters, my Delaware Valley people. This is what it is about. It’s about what happened this weekend. Friday night, Saturday, and yesterday afternoon. We ain’t losing, he said it, and he backed it up.
There are some things that are so profound. That was baseball. It is almost like it was divine intervention. That this team, that was scuffling so badly in June, makes this incredible run during the season. That again towards the end gets swept in Chicago. That looks like it was about to go out of the playoffs quietly on a Friday afternoon in St Louis.
And then the magic started. They take both games in St Louis. Then they take the Braves in 5. And then here are Padres. Which team is touched? Which team has the magic? Padres beat the Dodgers. Phillies beat the Braves. It would be San Diego’s home field. And it was clear who has the magic.
I have one thing to say. Watch out Astros, we’re coming. Watch out H Town, we’re coming.
Man, what a weekend. You will never find the outpouring of love… Friday night with a tense, just white knuckle, chewing your fingernails down to the nubs. Saturday, staring up at a 4-0 deficit in the 1st inning. Falter can’t get out. Look up it’s 4-0.
And then the guy who gets booed out of his 1st at bat. And rightfully so, booting the ball on Friday night. It was a routine grounder. He has had his ups and downs. I know this town loves him. Equally loved and frustrated by him… Rhys Hoskins steps up and hits 2 run bomb to get you back in the game automatically. But then Juan Soto hits an HR to go up 6-4. We are going oh, doesn’t look good. And then there is Rhys again. 2-run bomb to tie it! The bells are ringing Saturday night. We are all singing the song. And that sets the stage for an ominous rainy Sunday.
What happened? Rhys again. Turns on a Yu Darvish fastball. Deposits one in the seats. But that is not enough. They don’t call the game. The rain is coming. You have to stop the game. They don’t stop the game. It felt like 08 all over again with the bad weather and the pelting rain. And Seranthony can’t grip the ball. There’s a passed ball, and a wild pitch, and another wild pitch. Suddenly they are down. We look up 3-2. Do we have to get back on a flight to San Diego? We can’t celebrate here?
Until the MVP. And how incredible was it? Machado hits the HR Saturday night. Bryce had one of the great series. Those two, the two high free-agent prizes of that class a couple of years ago going head-to-head in the playoffs. And what does Bryce do? One more time, Choonis play it.
(They replay the Bryce Harper HR, and the final out to clinch the series)
Is that incredible? In a city, it has been tough. We have had some tough times over the last couple of years. And the city falls into rapture. Hugging everybody. Celebrating. The Phillies are going to the World Series. And that is what sports mean. That is why sports are important. And now we have a whole week to celebrate it.
