Anthony Gargano’s Opening Diatribe- “That is a Mortal Sin by Hoskins”
The Phillies lost game 2, and return to Philly with the series tied 1-1. See how Anthony Gargano reacted to the Phillies’ loss, Rhys Hoskins’ mortal sin in the field, and the series returning to Philly in his Opening Diatribe below…
Anthony’s Opening Diatribe
I know it was a disappointing night last night, because it was the greedy game. I know I was greedy for game 2. And Wheeler was greedy for game 2 too. He was tremendous last night. I heard Smoltz say it, when you are in that type of game, whoever breaks through first, is going to be a big deal. That 1 run is going to feel like four. Well, they break through for 3 runs, and that is the ball game.
And the shame of it was, it should have never happened. The play by Rhys was atrocious. That was a horrible play by Rhys Hoskins at first. What are you doing oleing the ball? I have a kid who plays youth baseball. I teach him to get in front of the ball. He plays third, and I will hit harder ground balls at him. I will say stay in front of it, you have to stay in front of it. You have to knock that ball down. You can’t go to one side and ole it. Like that is 101. In that kind of spot? In that kind of game? That is a mortal sin by Rhys Hoskins. Mortal sin.
I’m pissed off about that. Because that opens up the floodgates man. It’s a shame, they could have stole that game. They really could have, they were right there...
But, all I wanted out of Atlanta was a split. So, whether I get game 1, or game 2, it doesn’t matter. I am coming home, I have Nola tomorrow night, going up against Charlie Morton. The Phillies have hit Morton really well. He has over a 5 ERA against the Phillies. He’s lost his stuff. Like he used to be great. He is now in the twilight of his career. Phillies hit him. So I feel good coming home to Citizen’s Bank Park. it’s going to be raucous.
I don’t want that loss in game 2 to get us down. There is no reason to be down. And I don’t think we will… It’s going to be out of control Friday… Just win Friday, that is it. You win Friday you take your chances, right? Tomorrow is going to decide the series. You lose with Nola it is curtains. But I think they are going to win. I look at Nola and the way he has pitched, I’m sold. I’m sold that he is an Ace. I would make the Phillies a healthy favorite…
