Enjoy this weekend because they don’t come around often!
You made it. Your patience has paid off. It took 11 years, but you will have the chance to enjoy Phillies post season baseball this weekend. Think of the run from 2007-2011 and I bet you can remember the counts of specific big hits or every situation where your favorite player came through. It’s not fair, but what happens over the next two or three days is going to define the legacy of many Phillies players. Who is going to be Matt Stairs in a clutch situation? Does Bryson Stott have a Jimmy Rollins walk off in him? We will soon find out.
Bryce Harper doesn’t have an excuse BUT he certainly has a reason
IF Bryce Harper doesn’t come through in the playoff series vs the Cardinals it’s not that he has an excuse, but he’s got a reason. He’s going to undergo surgery after they are eliminated. His hand may or may not be feeling better. I’m impressed that he has soldiered through, but he hasn’t really been helping. That can all change with a little flair in St. Louis.
The Eagles challenge is completely different.
The Eagles are looking to get to a (5-0) start since the 2004 season. They keep finding different ways to win. It’s great having the depth of talent their roster employs, but having different groups come through at different times leading you to victory is what takes a good team to a great team.
is it crazy that I have no concerns at all about this team looking past an opponent or smelling themselves in victory? Most young rosters have that clunker buried deep in them and they show up at in opportune times. That usually comes from a lack of focus or down energy. That is important for the Eagles to make sure that the veterans and coaches warn of the pitfalls of complacency.
You want some good news?
If the Eagles do start (5-0) they will be (4-0) in the NFC. There is a beauty in getting off to that great start in conference. You only have 12 of those games to navigate and it helps determine tie-breakers when it comes to playoff positioning. This team has another game vs the Commanders, 2 vs the Giants and other three foot putts. This is one of the most dangerous spots left on the schedule. Beat the Cardinals and the true dreaming starts.
